According to Conger and Kanungo (1987, 1988) and Conger (1989), the attribution of charisma to leaders depends on four variables: 1. The degree of discrepancy between the status quo and the future goal or vision advocated by the leader. 2. A realistic assessment of environmental resources and constraints for bringing about such change. 4. The nature of articulation and impression management employed to inspire subordinations in the pursuit of the vision.
