For the most part the strikers controlled their emotions. But the farmers shouted angrily at the strikers; other times they tried to run over them with their trucks. One day an angry farmer grabbed huelga signs from the strikers. He cursed the strikers, then blasted the signs with his shotgun. Another day farmers beat Cesar and other strikers. But Cesar, ribs bruised, told the union members not to respond with violence. The farmers grew angry those fall months of 1965. They unleashed insults on the strikers.

But when the NFWA met, they decided to join their fellow compañeros of the AWOC. A meeting was held at a church in Delano. A few of the union members were mad at him. There was so much work to do, and here he was in bed! But Cesar was convinced that he had to fast. He wanted the union members and their supporters to stop their violence.
